I’m honored to have donated artwork to the 24th Annual Benefit Event and Exhibition hosted by Root Division next month. Root Division is a San Francisco–based organization whose mission is to empower artists, promote community service, inspire youth, and enrich the Bay Area through engagement in the visual arts.

My contribution is a 14.5” × 23” framed screenprint titled Collard Study (2024). The collard leaf depicted was grown at my former studio using soil and heirloom seeds taken from my 2024 sculpture Razed Bed #2. The piece is framed in white oak—the same wood used in the sculpture—further creating a material dialogue between the works.

One of only four prints created, Collard Study extends my exploration of African Diasporic foodways, preservation, and resilience, framing food as both archive and art. The winning bidder will also receive signed copies of my books Black Food, Vegetable Kingdom, and Afro-Vegan, along with a packet of heirloom collard seeds.
