In 2024, The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) launched the inaugural edition of Nexus: SF/Bay Area Black Art Week, an annual celebration that aims to illuminate the richness of the Black artist community in the SF/Bay Area. The event brought together institutions, galleries, creative spaces, and artists to showcase the richness of the Black artist community through special programming, exhibitions, and unique engagements.
Nexus seeks to:
Highlight Artistic Excellence: Showcase the incredible talent of Black artists in the Bay Area, affirming their significant contributions to the art world.
Foster Community: Build a supportive and vibrant community that connects artists, curators, collectors, and art enthusiasts· Enhance Visibility: Elevate the visibility of Black art and culture, ensuring it receives the attention and appreciation it merits.
Encourage Dialogue: Create spaces for meaningful conversations about the role of Black art in society and its impact on culture and history.· Support Innovation: Provide opportunities for artists to experiment, collaborate, and innovate within their practices.
Strengthen the bridge between SF and Oakland Artist Community: By fostering collaboration and connections between artists in San Francisco and Oakland, we can create a more unified and vibrant arts scene, enhance opportunities for cross-city projects, and amplify the impact of Black art experiences in the Bay Area.
