Making Worlds: Art, Food, Memory, and the Futures We Create

Making Worlds: Art, Food, Memory, and the Futures We Create A Participatory Workshop and Cooking Demonstration with bryant terry

Saturday, December 5, 2026 2:00–4:00 PM San Francisco Arts Commission Main Gallery, San Francisco

Presented in conjunction with Excavating Uranus, A Psalm for Nyota Uhura, Making Worlds invites participants to explore the intersections of art, food, memory, and imagination.

From the kitchen to the studio, the archive to the gallery, bryant terry’s interdisciplinary practice considers how creative work can make new worlds. Drawing on histories and cultural traditions of the African diaspora, this participatory workshop combines a multimedia presentation, conversation, reflection, and a cooking demonstration to explore how inherited histories, landscapes, and everyday practices can become sites of connection, creativity, and collective possibility.

Moving between past, present, and future, terry invites participants to consider how the stories, traditions, and knowledge we inherit can inspire us to imagine and create more just and abundant worlds.
